Hola! As I said on Tuesday, I made some Raw Brownie Bites earlier this week, and boy, are they good. I don’t like to toot my own horn, but I love these fudgy lil’ guys!
These brownies are raw, vegan, refined sugar-free, and super easy to make! They are an especially great treat during this 30 Day Sugar Cleanse, since the only sweeteners in these brownies are dates & a smidge of agave nectar.
- 1 c. pitted dates (about 6-8 of the Medjool variety, but any kind will work)
- 1 c. raw walnuts
- ¼ c. cocoa powder (I use this kind, which is raw, but regular cocoa powder works, too)
- 1 Tbsp. agave nectar

- ½ tsp. vanilla extract
- ¼ tsp. almond extract
- Pinch sea salt
Directions:
In a food processor, blend the dates & walnuts for about 30 seconds, until they are finely ground. Pause to add the cocoa powder, agave, vanilla & almond extracts, and sea salt. Mix again until everything is blended & the mixture sticks together.
Press the batter into the cups of a 12-cup mini muffin tin, and freeze for an hour. After the hour, take the brownies out of the cups & store in a container in the freezer or fridge. Grab one whenever you want a sweet treat!
Last night, I shared these with friends alongside some raw Chocolate Cherry Ice Cream. So delicious, and pretty innocent (as far as desserts go)!
Yield: 12 brownie bites

Interesting. I’ve been seeing dates used a lot lately in raw treats. Plan on getting some this weekend!

How is your body feeling so far?
Good! To be honest, I think I was at a better starting place than a lot of people might be because I am realizing that I already don’t eat a lot of refined sugar. I’ve had to cut out things like my regular chocolate chips, my regular ketchup, some prepackaged/frozen meals, my coffee creamer, etc. – but I don’t really have a whole lot of the regular “supermarket” items that have sugar where you wouldn’t expect it. For instance, some people participating in the cleanse have noticed that their regular bread has high fructose corn syrup in it, the pickles in their fridge contain sugar, their peanut butter contains sugar, and so on. Most of the stuff I regularly buy doesn’t have these hidden ingredients, so luckily, it hasn’t been too much of a challenge & I haven’t been duped into eating something thinking it’d be sugar-free when it wasn’t! Guess it pays to be an organic snob.
I am, however, finding creative ways to still feed my sweet tooth (*ahem* like the brownie bites in this post)… I think it’s great to replace refined sugars with healthier sweeteners (like agave, maple syrup, dates, etc.), but part of the reason I’m doing this cleanse is to try to get my sweet cravings under control… So I think starting on Monday, for the last half of the cleanse, I’m going to try to cut out all added sweeteners & stick to just fruit! I am trying to get the most benefits as possible from this cleanse, so I want to take the challenge to the next level!
Brownie bites sound yummy! We have a version too, they help hit the spot when we want to something sweet. We watch on sugar intake too, eat very little sugar naturally though.
Good luck with the cleanse.
Iiii waaaaannnt soooome.

that is 2:1 of dates to nuts so they are runny. Yours look like a 1:1 ratio so firmer…which is more portable and not such a mess! hahah! great choco work!
…YUM! these look SO good! I know that when I go back to Chicago my family will want to do a BIG dinner (since we can’t get together for Easter)…these will definitely make an appearance! Who needs chocolate cake?
This is perfect! I was looking for a sweet treat recipe to use for a get together I’m having this weekend. I think I just found one. Thanks!
Thanks, Jess! I’d been in the A cup boat for many, many years. Not that I’ve sprouted double Ds, but a nice B cup is very welcome in these parts. Thanks for the lovely comment
These look amazing!
These look so soft and fudgy!! They must have been so good with the raw choco cherry ice cream! I want these!
Oh. My. Goodness. I’ve just bookmarked these, they look FANTASTIC! Sorry I haven’t been commenting recently, I accidentally deleted you from my Reader when I weeded through it a few days ago! You’re back on there, I promise
Happy Friday!
These looks SOOOO good. Seriously good. I’m trying to have a break from sugar (or limit at least) so these could help. Thanks
These are definitely a must-try. Can’t wait!
Raw brownies are great, but raw brownies with chocolate ice cream are amazing! What a treat!
