No, our water hasn’t turned green.
I recently made a green juice that ended up being a little too…hmm, well, earthy-tasting for my liking. It was comprised of a lot of my regular ingredients: kale stems, a handful of spinach, a few romaine leaves, an inch or so of ginger, a carrot, and half of a cucumber. I fed these glorious veggies through the juicer, poured the juice into a glass, cleaned the juicer & all its parts, and went to take a sip. Ooh, boy. It wasn’t very good. At all. It was downright gross. After a few forced sips, I realized that I forgot to add any sweetness! Normally I like to add half of a green apple or a quarter or so of a lemon. This cuts the “earthiness” of all the vegetables & makes the juice really delicious. Well, all of my juicer equipment was cleaned up & I didn’t want to dirty it again for an apple (and I didn’t have a lemon that I could just squeeze into my glass) – but there was no way I was throwing away all of that gorgeous, healthy green juice & all of its nutrients! I wasn’t going to force myself to choke it down, either.
Suddenly, I realized that I could pour the juice into an ice tray to use at a later time. That’s just what I did, and honestly, it seems like such a simple idea, but I am loving it! (After the cubes were frozen, I just popped them out of the tray & put them in a plastic container so we could continue using the tray to make regular water ice cubes.) I have blended a cube or two into fruit smoothies, which adds a little boost of nutrition hidden in all that sweet smoothie goodness. I have also used the cubes to keep fresh (better) juice cold while I sip it. A cube went particularly well in the raspberry smoothie I had today. So if you ever make a juice that is too unpleasant to drink on its own, I highly recommend making ice cubes out of it!
On another note, I hope you are all enjoying the dog days of summer!
Mabel & I took a loooong walk today because the weather was beyond perfect. 72°F, sunny, breezy, and absolutely no humidity. I wish I took my camera along so I could show you guys how lovely it was! We walked through our ‘hood, by two lakes near our apartment, and through the Rose Gardens. The walk ended up being longer than I planned on, and Mabel decided she’d rather lay in the middle of the sidewalk than walk for the last part of it, so I ended up carrying her… (Talk about spoiled!) She was smiling like a fool & probably thinking, “Man, do I have my mom whipped!” – but it was wonderful just the same. I didn’t want to overtire her little legs. Now she’s passed out next to me in her dog bed for a well-deserved rest!
Have a great night, everyone!

Great idea on the cubes! So much easier then making green juice all the time! Mabel is so adorable! I always get the song in my head when I see her “Her eyes were hazel, her name was Mabel..” LOL!
What a genius idea! I wonder how they would be added to soups too! I feel like my freezer is so underutilized. Stuff had a tendency to go in and then I’d forget about it so now I seem to not use it much. I’ll have to get better at that! Thanks for the nudge!
That’s such a great idea!! I don’t have a juicer so I don’t encounter this problem, but it was super creative of you to think of that!
I love that idea!!! So convenient, especially because greens tend to go bad quick so they’re not always on hand for a green smoothie!
I have a tiny dog too! She is the same way. I walk her and end up carrying her for parts of the walk…. So spoiled but she’s my baby!!
interesting idea. do veggies/ect loose their active enzymes in the freezer as well? I usually dont juice too far before hand due to this reason. And the picture of Mabel is too cute
Personally, I don’t worry too much about the juice losing its enzymes because I feel like any juice is better than no juice at all. I have read from some sources that juice should be consumed immediately (as in, within minutes of juicing), but sometimes I sip on my glass of juice for up to an hour. The ice cubes probably aren’t as potent as the juice was 5 seconds after juicing, but like I said, I’d rather have even a fraction of the nutrition from the juice cubes than none at all.
thats a good way to look at it. thats why i rarely juice anything… haha im too lazy
I LOVE YOUR GREEN ICE CUBES.
That is absolutely awesome!
